Terry
Wilhite is scheduled to take the reigns of pastor of First Baptist Church in
Russell on Sunday December 4th. He and Sharon and family will be moving into the Parsonage next
door to the Church at 206 West Smith Street in Russell sometime during the
month of December. The congregation looks forward to their ministering to
the Russell area.
Terry Wilhite grew up on the farm of his parents Alice and the late Bob Wilhite of rural Russell, Iowa. He has a sister Cathy, and brothers Jerry and the late Rick Wilhite. Terry is a 1978 graduate of Russell High School, and has further education from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, and Maranatha Bible College in Watertown, Wisconsin. He grew up attending Russell First Baptist Church along with his parents and siblings. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior during his college years. He and his wife Sharon have 7 children, 5 of whom still live with them at home. His careers have included teaching at a Christian School in Anchorage, Alaska, an assistant youth minister at Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church in Centerville, Iowa, Awana Leader at Ankeny, Iowa Baptist Church, a part time preacher filling pulpits in area churches, being a chimney sweeper, and a general handyman for hire. Several of his dad's brothers were missionaries and pastors along with Sharon's father being a Pastor.

Annual Meeting Report
The Russell Sportsmen’s Club Annual Meeting
was November 14, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. There were 14 members present and one
guest: Members Stan Steenhoek, Steve
Mikesell, Dan Morrett, Curt Catron, Jeff Wesley, Weston Laing, John Laing, Amy
Laing, Jim and Janell McIntyre, Jeremy Cochran, Vern Vogel, Tim Stroud, Dan
Quillin, and guest Chad Smith. President Stan Steenhoek opened the meeting. Dan
noted that the family of Bob Sims gave $1,300 in memorials.
Members
elected the following Officers and Board Members for
2017-President: Steve Mikesell,Vice-president: Tim
Stroud, Secretary/Treasurer: Dan Morrett, At-large Board Members:
Curt Catron, Jeremy Cochran, Paul Goldsmith, John Laing, Dan Quillin, and Ted
Williams.
Guest Chad Smith talked to the membership about his
interest in starting and coaching a high school trap team. The Club would
like to see a trap team started and offered the use of the trap range for
practices, meets, and related activities, should a team get established.
Some members expressed interest in helping out. The Club will send
Chad a letter of support.
2016
membership included 149 single or family memberships an improvement from 2015,
Installing lights on the pistol range was discussed and tabled.
2016 range/lodge improvements included continued work on new
rifle range: target stands are in, 2 of 5 shooting benches are built and
delivered.
Thank you
to all volunteers who continued work on this big project. A special
thanks to Stan Steenhoek for overseeing the project and for the use of his
heavy equipment. Please continue to thank Vern Vogel for keeping the
grounds mowed and the volunteers who stepped in during his absence.
