                Monday, December 3, 7 p.m. Russell City Council meeting
                Wednesday, December 5, 6:30 p.m. Night Owls of Faith United Methodist Church will meet at the home of Connie Smith on  for their Christmas party.
            Sunday , December 9th,   6:00 p.m., First Baptist Church, Christmas Program -  at the Church.
                Thursday,  Decmeber 13th, 1:15 p.m.   Russell News meeting at the Museum-everyone welcome
            Saturday,  December 15th,  2 p.m. First Baptist Church, Christmas Caroling at Nursing Homes & Selected Homes, Meet at the Church.
                Thursday, December 20,  6 p.m. Russell Museum/Library Board meeting
               Friday December 21, Chariton Schools dismissed 3 hours early. School will resume
               Thursday January 3.
                Friday, December 21, at 7 p.m. Lucas County Inter-church Council will have a Longest Night worship service at the First Lutheran Church, 1004 Curtis Avenue, Chariton.  A Longest Night service is especially for all who are grieving as others are celebrating.  Everyone is welcome!
                Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24th, 6 p.m. Faith United Methodist Church will have a Christmas Eve service of Lessons and Carols. Everyone is welcome!
                Tuesday, December 25, Christmas Day, rejoice in the celebration God's greatest gift in Jesus. 
                Sunday, December 30th 6 p.m.,First Baptist Church, New Years Eve Game Night  at the Church. Everyone invited to come and bring friends with you.
Russell Sportsmen's Club Annual Report for 2018
                The Russell Sportsmen’s Club met at 6:00 p.m. Monday, November 12 for the club banquet and annual membership meeting.  There were 20 members present and one guest. Following the meal, the business meeting was called to order by Vice-president Tim Stroud.
                The only item of business on the agenda was Election of Officers and Board of Directors for 2019.  Officers elected were Dan Quillin for President, Paul Goldsmith for Vice-president, and Dan Morrett for Secretary/Treasurer.  At large Board Members elected were Steve Mikesell, Tim Stroud, Jeremy Cochran, John Laing, Stan Steenhoek, Ted Williams, and George Esper. 
                There was no other business addressed and the meeting adjourned at 7:15. The next scheduled club activity is a handgun shoot on Sunday, March 17, 2019.  For information on Club membership, call 641-203-5296.

The following is to correct errors printed previously in the Russell News:
​     ​          Mike  Beaty entered the 17th World Percheron Congress (around 800 Percheron's were entered) in Des Moines recently. 
​      ​He won 1st Place  for the Farm Vehicle division with Old Betsy, Chariton's vintage fire engine. Riding on Old Betsy were Chariton firemen Jim Larrington and  Cody Smith and driving is Mike Beaty. 
​      In other races: Feed team race (entered 4 times and placed each time), Walking plow-9th, Barnyard pull-6th, Sulky plow-6th, Log skid-9th, Gamblers choice (obstacle course)-6th. ​Job well done, Mike. Our sincere apologies for the errors.

City Council Special Meeting

CITY OF RUSSELL
SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING
OCTOBER 29, 2018
Present:  Duane Bedford (Mayor), Council members:  Chris Feehan, Terry Newcomb, Casey DeHoedt, Corey Paige and Cindy Smith, clerk.
Meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Duane Bedford, Mayor.
Police Department:  Officer Jeff Johnson and Mayor, Duane Bedford have had discussions regarding Officer Johnson’s time availability.  Officer Johnson has resigned as our city police due to the time constraints that he has with his other responsibilities with the City of Chariton and with the State of Iowa Sheriff’s department.    The City of Russell has had applications submitted and has decided to hire Officer Dustin Hardin to take over the responsibilities of the Russell police department.   Officer Johnson has stated that he will assist in getting the new officer started and help in any way that he can.  This offer to hire Officer Hardin was motioned for approval by Chris Feehan and seconded by Casey Dehoedt.

Dump Trailer:  Jim Larrington has been getting quotes for a dump trailer to purchase for the city.  The cost of this trailer will be $6,990.00 which will include a tarp and spare tire.  This purchase was motioned for approval by Terry Newcomb and seconded by Corey Paige.

Motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:30 was made by Chris Feehan and seconded by Casey Dehoedt
