Russell News September 26, 2017
Congratulations
To
Aislin Carroll of Russell, 5 yrs. old, who won a blue ribbon at the state fair
for the longest pony tail.
To Mike Beaty, who had three 1st with his horses
in the Farm Hitch Obstacle, Antique Machinery or Vehicle and Cultivator
Competition, 2nd in the
Barnyard Horse Pull, and 6th in the Log skidding and missed being
the Reserve Champion by one point. Good work.
To the 14 members of the Russell Fire Department who
traveled to Forest City for the Fire Convention. They reported they had a lot
of fun and came home with 3rd place finish. Russell is so very proud of our Firemen and
First Responders. We are so very lucky to have them.
Around Town
We have 3 council members up for re-election
-Terry Newcomb, Casey DeHoedt, and Jay Pierschbacher .
The Museum/Library Board would like to thank the community
for their support at their successful breakfast
at the Fall Festival.
On Friday, September 8, there were 88 tractors (more or
less) from the Clarke County Old Iron Tractor Club that rode into Russell. They
had a mid-morning break at the Community Center. They had started from the
Lucas County Fairgrounds at 7:30 that morning. They went south of Russell to
the big town of Bethlehem for lunch, put on by the Alexander family.
They then went on to Humeston and then returned to the
Lucas County Fairgrounds.
On Saturday, September 9th, they traveled to
Norwood, Iowa and went to Rawleigh World for their break.
They traveled on to
Indianola for lunch and then to Lacona for their afternoon break. They then returned to the Lucas County
Fairgrounds where they would disband and leave for home.
The tractors rode mostly on rock roads, but had to travel
the highway for several miles.
The proceeds from this tractor ride goes to give out eight
scholarships in four different schools in Clarke County. If any one wants an application, contact Bev
Dixon at 647-774-6576.
